The Victoria Quilt Tutorial
We recently showed you The Magic 8 Trick ,
a fast and easy way to mass produce those HSTs we all love and adore.
We also promised a fun tutorial for what we used all ours for, and here it is!
The Victoria Quilt is a fun, fast way to make those darling Herringbone style quilts that are oh so popular right now.
Let’s get started.
Supplies Needed for a 60 x 80 “Thrwin” Quilt:
{“A bigger-than-a-throw-but-not-quite-a-true-twin”}
-3 yds White {I used Bella Solids Bleached White for Moda}
-1 yd each of Navy, Red, & Aqua* {I used Miss Kate by Bonnie & Camille for Moda}
-4.5 yds backing {I used Daysail by Bonnie & Camille for Moda}
-½ yd binding {I used Miss Kate by Bonnie & Camille for Moda}
*You can do this quilt with just two colors, you would just need 3 yards of each color*
Step 1.
-Cut 24 – 11 ¾ “ White Squares
-Cut 8 – 11 ¾ “ squares of each Navy, Red, & Aqua {total of 24 squares}
Follow all instructions on the Magic 8 Trick Tutorial to make 192 – 5 in squares total {remember, this is the finished size of the square}
Step 2.
Sew all those squares together!
A. Lay quilt out. This helps to make sure you are keeping the correct pattern, it’s easy to flip one of the squares…and then the seam ripper becomes your friend.
B. Sew down by column. {You could do rows, but I found columns to be easiest to not mess up the pattern!} You should now have 12 columns, 4 of each color.
*Press open all seams as you go!
C . Now sew two of the same color column together, making sure to match points. You should now have 6 columns.
Now sew the 6 columns together.
Step 3.
Quilt top is done, get backing, quilt and bind!
Yields one nice size quilt, 60 x 80.
Enjoy!
